Inauguration of the 785th Academic Year of the University of Siena

The University of Siena will inaugurate its 785th Academic Year on Wednesday, 26 November 2025, in the Grand Hall of the Rector’s Office, hosting Professor Giorgio Parisi, Nobel Prize in Physics in 2021.

The inauguration ceremony will open at 11:00 a.m. with an address by Rector Roberto Di Pietra, followed by greetings from Mingming Ji, Vice President of Nantong University. The morning will continue with remarks by the representative of the Student Council, Elisa Marretti, and by the representative of the technical and administrative staff, Daniela Orsi.

Professor Massimiliano Guderzo, Full Professor of the History of International Relations in the Department of Political and International Sciences, will deliver an inaugural lecture titled “From Multilateralism to a United World: The Ethics of Responsibility for a New Cosmopolitan Citizenship.” This will be followed by a lecture by Professor Giorgio Parisi, Nobel Prize in Physics in 2021, on “Artificial Intelligence, Research, and Applications.”

Rector Roberto Di Pietra will then officially proclaim the opening of the Academic Year, the 785th in the history of the University of Siena, before the closing performance by the University Choir, conducted by Professor Elisabetta Miraldi.

The ceremony will also be streamed live on the University’s YouTube channel.
